JOY of GIVING

“Everyone can experience the joy and blessing of generosity; because everyone has something to give.” – Jan Grace.

What an end of the year this is shaping up to be.

Little did we know at GiveClear, that just as our new feature “GenerosityWORKS” (think Go Fund Me for Charity) was released, that we would experience the catastrophic flooding in our own backyard here in Abbotsford, BC.  Immediately I knew we had to do something.  So we launched our first ever cause fund to raise money for those affected by the flooding.

The response to date has been incredible.  It has been the biggest joy for me to see how many people have found our site, donated and shared. Every day I check the page to see the progress on the thermometer and considering this is our first cause, it has far exceeded my expectations.

To add to that joy has been the connections I have made with other organizations like Abbotsford Community Foundation, The Vancouver Jewish Community Foundation, Arnold Community Church, BC Agriculture Council and Samaritan’s Purse. We even had a spin off fund created by some members of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) with a goal of raising $500,000. I have seen people rise up and unify over this cause in a way that is contagious.

And then there are the local businesses and volunteers, everyday people that have stepped up to sandbag through the night, help people strip the wet carpets out of their homes, milk cows, and cook up a storm to feed all of these hardworking people.

So in the face of adversity, in the face of all the damage, there is a generous community of people who have dug deep, risen above and blessed those impacted, making things a little better for those who have lost so much.

I trust that all of you will be impacted by the Joy of Giving this December and decide what it is that you have to offer, whether it be a smile at the grocery store clerk, a warm embrace of a loved one, or a special gift to your favourite charity.

With much gratitude,

Tammy Kyte.
